STANDARD III.

1. Reading. A passage not exceeding sixty characters in the Third Book used in the school, with explanation:

colloquial Chinese.

2. Writing. Frum dictation, twenty consecutive characters in the same book. 3-Arithmetic--Simple Multiplication, in addition to the Arithmetic of the previous Standards.

Copy writing will be taken in this Standard, but it will not be counted if the scholar has not passed in

1. Reading. -- A passage not exceeding seventy characters in the Fourth Book used in the school, with

4. Geography.-The Chinese Empire.

common book or newspaper.

STANDARD VI.

21. In all cases where copy writing is taken, not less than one month's work must be shown to the examiner.

23. Scholars who are presented under Standards IV, V, and V1 for schools in Classes III, IV, and V, may also be ex- ined in one or more of the following subjects, namely:-Algebra, Geometry, Physical Geography, and the Natura siences, provided they have previously passed in all the subjects contained in the Standards under which they are presented, provided the subjects are taught in such a way as to graduate the instruction to the different standards.
